"I think every major city should have a wonderful ballet company and a great contemporary dance company.  I think DWDT was able to fill that space bringing new and exciting works to the city making Houston a true Dance center to be proud of.  I know I will always be proud of Dominic Walsh and the Vision he had for dance in Houston."  -  Ben Stevenson

Since 2002 critically acclaimed Dominic Walsh Dance Theater (DWDT) has charted new territory in the dance world by translating the techniques and skills of classical ballet into a more contemporary realm.  In this book Dominic Walsh, founder and artistic director of DWDT, reflects on his journey leading the company.  Walsh shares insights about ballets, collaborations and people behind the scenes who inspired and helped create DWDT's innovative productions.  The core of this book is a collection of photographs capturing some of the incredible moments from the company's repertoire.  Walsh's accompanying commentary reveals the inspiration and inner workings of the choreographer's mind.  Biographies of Walsh and Domenico Luciano, who joined the company in 2005 as a dancer and as Walsh's collaborator, shed light on pivotal moments in both their careers.  Dominic Walsh Dance Theater is a retrospective of the remarkable achievement of DWDT and a testament to the passionate vision of Dominic Walsh.

As a principal dancer with Houston Ballet under Ben Stevenson, O.B.E. for over a decade, Dominic Walsh danced all around the globe and received national and international praise for his interpretations of both classical and contemporary roles.  He has danced all the classics such as Swan Lake, Giselle, Romeo & Juliet, and Manon and appeared with major stars including Nina Ananiashivili and Alessandra Ferri.  In 1998 Walsh burst onto the choreographic scene when he won the Choo-San Goh Award.  He has staged and created works in Tokyo, Naples, Italy, Chicago, Sarasota, London, and New York, and has served as Resident Choreographer of Sarasota Ballet of Florida.  Walsh works with companies and academies throughout the world as a guest teacher and coach for both classical and contemporary classes and repertoire.

Photographer Gabriella Nissen has been documenting Dominic Walsh Dance Theater performances since 2007.  As editor of this book Nissen worked with Walsh sorting through thousands of DWDT images by her and fellow photographers to find the brightest gems to highlight the company's history.
"The Dominic Walsh Dance Theater brought an international sophistication to Houston which was at the level of the finest in Europe, Asia and Latin America.  Truly original, provocative and refreshing, Dominic always tested the limits and raised the bar, helping those who viewed his performances to think in more open minded, visionary and creative ways.  The Dominic Walsh Dance Theater will always have an important place in Houston's history in the beginning of this new millennium, setting the stage and paving the way for others to follow in the future years to come."   - Deborah Colton
